Our Story

In the fall of 1951, John Lee (Jack) and Velma Lively Waters relocated from Clay County to Nicholas County, West Virginia, to establish Waters Funeral Chapel. Their original location was on Main Street, directly across from the County Courthouse. Jack and Velma had welcomed their first child, a daughter, earlier that year. There would be three more daughters to quickly follow.

In 1960 a new building was built to house the family and funeral home at 411 Water Street. They also celebrated the birth of their first and only son, John Gregory Waters. Greg and wife, Merry McClung Waters, currently own and manage the business at this same location. The funeral home has employed many friends and family throughout the seventy plus years. The Waters Family is proud that Waters Funeral Chapel is now in its third generation, Brandon Lee Waters serves as vice president.
