William "Willie"
Griffin
Dec 16, 1947 — Oct 26, 2025
William "Willie" Griffin, 77, of Gilboa, passed away on October 26, 2025, at his home. He was born in Hazard, Kentucky, December 16, 1947, to the late Foster and June Caldwell Griffin.
Willie was a hard-working coal miner and a Baptist by faith. He loved the outdoors, hunting and he was known as the camp chef—though sometimes stubbornly insisting his way was the only way. Friends and family remember him for his fiery determination, quick wit, and the laughter he could always bring to a room.
He was a loving father to David (Lori) Griffin and Dawn (Jeremiah) Johnson, and a proud grandfather to Shanaya Griffin, Michael Taylor, and Ashley Coffman. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Ryan and Derik Johnson. His family extended to two great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his siblings: brothers Coda (Lisa), Charlie (Casey), James (Patty), David (Betty), Levi (Connie), and sisters Patsy, Jean (Richard), Maudie (Roger), Grace (Bob) and Bonnie (Jerry).
He was also preceded in death by one step-great-grandson.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday October 31st in Underwood Cemetery at Twenty-Mile with Pastor Arnold Nicholas officiating where loved ones will gather to honor his memory.
The Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville is in charge of the arrangements.
