Thomas Lee Proffitt Sr.
January 19, 1952 – October 23, 2026
Thomas Lee Proffitt Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on October 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Though his passing leaves a space in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, his faith, love, and cherished memories will live on for generations to come.
Born on January 19, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio, Thomas lived a life shaped by faith, family, hard work, and love. He served his country after joining the United States Army in 1969 and later worked as a coal miner for more than twenty years, demonstrating the dedication and determination that were a part of who he was.
Above all else, Thomas loved the Lord. His Christian faith was at the center of his life, and his greatest joys were found in his relationship with God and the family he loved so dearly. He treasured his wife of 53 years, Nina Proffitt, whom he loved deeply and faithfully throughout their life together. Their marriage was a lasting testament to a lifetime of love, commitment, and shared memories.
Thomas was a proud father to his three sons: Thomas (Donna) Proffitt Jr., Cris (Cathy) Proffitt, and Matthew (Rachel) Proffitt. He was also a devoted and loving grandfather to six grandchildren: Andrew (Taylor) Proffitt, Aaron (Emma) Proffitt, Aidan Proffitt, Megan Proffitt, Natalie Proffitt, and Matthew Proffitt. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye, bringing him tremendous pride and joy. They held a special place in his heart, and the love he shared with them was one of life's greatest blessings.
Thomas was preceded in death by his birth parents, Catherine and Lee Proffitt, and his adoptive parents, Benny and Nellie Perry. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara, Beverly, and Patty Proffitt.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brothers Wayne Proffitt, and Glenn and Dale Perry; his sisters Brenda, Linda, and Mary Perry; and a host of extended family members and loved ones who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Thomas found happiness in the simple but meaningful blessings of life. His greatest loves were the Lord, his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed playing music with his sons, singing for his Lord, flowers of all kinds, birds, and sitting in the sunshine; creating moments and memories that his family will treasure long after his passing. His love was a gift, his presence a blessing, and his influence will continue through the lives of those he loved.
Though our hearts grieve the loss of a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, we find comfort in the promise of God's Word and the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ. For those who believe, death is not the end, but a homecoming to the Lord. We can take comfort in knowing that Thomas has finished his earthly journey and is now at peace in the presence of his Savior.
His family will forever be grateful for the years they were blessed to share with him, for the lessons he taught, the love he gave, the faith he cherished, and the memories that will never fade. While he will be deeply missed, his legacy of faith, family, and love will continue to shine through the generations he leaves behind.
Until we meet again, may we find comfort in knowing that he is home with the Lord.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday October 31st at the Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville with Pastor Joe Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow at the Zoar Cemetery in Keslers Cross Lanes. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening.
