STEPHEN DOUGLAS BELL

Stephen Douglas Bell, 77, of Summersville, passed away on Monday October 5, 2026, at his home. Born on June 29, 1949, at Montgomery, WV, Steve was the son of Claude Echols Bell and Betty Walker Bell of Summersville,

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by an infant son, Peter, and a brother, Rex Bell. He is survived by five beloved children, daughters Jennifer Bell of Philadelphia, Heather Shifflett and Rebecca Bell of Craigsville, sons Joshua Bell of Deepwater and Elijah Bell of Charleston, six grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Sid and Drema Bell of Mount Carbon, two nieces and two nephews.

Steve possessed a wealth of knowledge about ‘60s and ‘70s music, movies, literature, sports and the Bible. Prior to his illness, Steve loved to walk the trails in the Summersville area, share sports memories and video high school football games.

He often mentioned how much he appreciated the kindness of his many friends and neighbors at Dylan Heights Apartments.

Steve believed in the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and the promise in the Book of Job, “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth; and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.”

In accordance with his wishes, Steve’s remains will be cremated. No service is currently scheduled.
