Obituary

Sebert J. Hanshaw, age 89, passed on to be in his heavenly home on the afternoon of Thursday, August 27, 2026, in Tipton. Sebert was born to the late Raymond and Virgie Schoolcraft Hanshaw, in Dixie, on June 23, 1937. Among 9 brothers and sisters, and two nephews raised like brothers, Sebert grew up in the Dixie and Poe areas. In his youth, Sebert was described as a hardworking young man. Through his life he held a variety of positions, including those of a paperboy, coal miner, utility line worker, and store owner. In his spare time, he was an avid outdoorsman.

Sebert was the kindest of characters; always patient, and never quick to anger. He only saw the good in people and was welcoming and neighborly to all. Sebert was a devoted husband to his wife of 69 years, Juanita Bennett; a gentle father to 5 children,15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and 2 more great-grandchildren on their way.

To say Sebert was patient and kind is an understatement. He was a light, with a true and unwavering faith in God. He held a deep love for his family that openly extended beyond his front porch. He had a genuinely innocent outspokenness that left you with a smile, and most times, a little bit wiser.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita; children Randy and wife Cleta, Robin, Kimberly and husband Craig, Jill and husband Chuck, and Jan; grandchildren Charlie, Amanda, Kyleigh, and Nicholas; Jeffery, Logan, and Rhegan; Jamie and Adam; Reanna; Clint; Anna, John, Jonah, and Ella; Ashley, Drew, and one on the way; Johnathon, Kelcie, and Aubrie; Jacob, Hannah, Darren, and Shelby; Blake, Kyra, Opal, and one on the way; Emma; Casey, Molly, Octavia, Lainey, and Ataley.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday August 31st in the Zoar Cemetery at Keslers Cross Lanes. The Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville is in charge of the arrangements.
