Regina Ann
Samples
Feb 14, 1943 — Jun 3, 2026
Regina Ann Tyo Samples, affectionately known as "Grandma Tootle," went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on February 14, 1943, to Eli Lee Tyo and Audrey Marie Craft Tyo in Diamond, West Virginia, Regina lived a life defined by love, generosity, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family and loved ones.
For 62 years, she shared a beautiful marriage with her beloved husband, Junior Floyd Samples. Together, they built a home and family rooted in faith, hard work, and unconditional love. Their home in Canvas, West Virginia, was more than a house. It was a gathering place where family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers were welcomed with open arms and a warm meal.
Regina was known for her servant's heart and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel important and loved. Her door was always open, prepared to shoulder the burdens of those who were in sorrow or rejoice in the successes of her loved ones, whom she so loved to celebrate. She found joy in caring for others and spent her life ensuring those around her felt loved, supported, and well-fed.
Cooking was one of Regina's greatest expressions of love. Family gatherings, holidays, and ordinary afternoons often centered around her kitchen table, where no one ever left hungry. She delighted in preparing meals for family and friends and found immense happiness in bringing people together. Her love for gardening reflected the same nurturing spirit she demonstrated throughout her life.
While Regina worked for many years at Revco Drug Store, her true calling was caring for her family and all of those around her. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her own family, earning her the treasured nickname "Grandma Tootle" from generations of children and adults whose lives she touched.
Regina is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Junior Floyd Samples; her daughter, Kimberly Belletto and husband, Vince Belletto; her sister, Helen Louise Tyo Dunbar; and her brother, James "Jimbo" Michael Tyo and wife, Deloris Tyo.
She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Jeremy Daniel Waybright and wife, Bethany McCue Waybright; Christopher Adam Waybright and spouse, Gregory Pittman; Elizabeth Trogdon Vance and husband, Tyler Vance; Zack Babauta and wife, Jill Camden Babauta; Dionicio Jose "DJ" Babauta and wife, Kristen "KB" Babauta; and Carleena Babauta and fiancé, Jackson Chumley.
Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren, Jaxson Waybright, RayLee Vance, Isabella Vance, and Henry Vance.
She is also survived by dear family friends, Justin and Jenn Barker, Ethan and Jessica Ball, and Bob and Cora Dobson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Lisa Samples Babauta; her parents, Eli Lee Tyo and Audrey Marie Craft Tyo; her brothers, Kenneth Tyo and Don Tyo; and her sisters, Elizabeth Tyo and Ginny Tyo.
The legacy Regina leaves behind is not founded in any materials or possessions, but in the countless lives she touched through simple acts of kindness, a warm meal, a listening ear, and a loving heart. She taught those around her the value of family, the importance of kindness, and the need to care for others, without expecting anything in return. Her love will continue to live on throughout the world through the family she cherished and, in every gathering where stories of "Grandma Tootle" are shared.
Visitation will be held at Waters Funeral Chapel, 411 Water Street, Summersville, West Virginia, on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m., with burial services immediately following at the East Lawn Cemetery in Canvas, West Virginia.
The family finds comfort in knowing that while Regina will be deeply missed, the love she shared so freely will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
