Myron James
Moyer Iii
Jun 24, 1947 — Oct 24, 2025
Myron J. "Jim" Moyer III, 78 of Summersville passed away Friday October 24, 2025, in Morgantown. He was the son of the late Myron J. "Jim" Moyer Jr. and Miriam Pease Moyer. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was very involved in veteran's activities. Jim served as a past Commander of the Summersville VFW post #6106 and was instrumental in establishing the Veteran's Museum. He was a former employee of Waters Funeral Chapel and a lifelong member of the Summersville Baptist Church where he was a guitarist in the praise band. Jim was also an author with a weekly column in the Nicholas Chronicle. His love of playing guitar was well known as was his love for a good practical joke. His shenanigans and silliness are legendary with his family and friends. His family will truly miss his quirky sense of humor when it came to birthday cards and Christmas gifts.
He is preceded in death by his niece Aimee Heneck. He is survived by his brothers Michael (Patsy) Nelson of Albuquerque, NM; Lawrence "Rock" Moyer of Summersville; one sister M.E. "Betsy" (Danny) Martin also of Summersville. Nephews Chad (Coleen) Nelson of Terrell, TX; Daniel "DJ" (Courtney) Martin and niece Jessica (Anthony) Tucker, both of Summersville. He also leaves behind several great nieces and nephews who adored their "Uncle Jimmy."
A special thank you to the Waters family descendants: Gena, Melissa, Melinda, Michele, and Greg, their spouses, children, and grandchildren for being Jimmy's "extra" family. The love, friendship and support through the years was so wonderful and appreciated.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday October 30th in the Summersville Baptist Church with Pastor Dana Gatewood officiating. Burial, with military grave rites, will follow at the W.V. Memorial Gardens in Calvin. Friends may call at the church from noon until service time on Thursday.
We are asking those who wish to attend to wear their favorite gold and blue in honor of his WV Mountaineers or red, white, and blue in honor of his beloved country.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Veteran's Museum in Summersville or the Nicholas County Animal Shelter.
Pallbearers: DJ Martin, Anthony Tucker, Blake Epling, Brandon Waters, Mike Boggess and Newt McCutcheon
Honorary Pallbearers: Jordan Waters and VFW post #6106
The Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville is in charge of the arrangements.
