Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Bane Mathews of Nettie WV, more recently Denver, NC laid aside her tired body and entered Heaven on June 29, 2021 nine days after her 94 th birthday. Mary was born June 20, 1927 in the windy hills of Marshall County on Clouston Road, Cameron, WV. She was born on the family farm the only child of Cora Fletcher Bane and Orval Cecil "Tim" Bane.

Mary was married to Franklin Walker Mathews on Dec 6, 1947 in Cameron and they later moved to Nettie. Frank preceded her in death August 28, 1995.

The often repeated phrase by people who knew Mary or just met her was, "Mary is the sweetest lady!". Mary was the sweetest lady! She never knew a stranger. She still practiced the dying art of a hand-written note. Many have been touched with sweet words in a card from Mary.

She was an excellent seamstress and also knitted many precious gifts for people she knew and cared for until just recently. Mary was an excellent cook and well known for her fabulous homemade rolls. The family always looked forward to "Mom's homemade noodles" she rolled by hand as her own mother had done before her.

Mary was a much loved neighbor who lived almost 70 years in Nettie. She loved attending the Senior Center there with her friends. She loved her church and the people she worshipped with at Mt. Zion Memorial Church. They were faithful to remember her.

Mary loved her family dearly and was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She treated her sons-in-law and daughter-in-law as her own. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Debbie Drennen and husband Art of Sherrill's Ford, NC. Julie Schnars and husband Mike of Millersport, OH.  Larry Mathews and wife Debbie of Mt. Lookout, WV. Grandchildren Matt Drennen and wife Jenni of Huntersville, NC. Cori McCullough and husband Brady of Columbus, OH and Regan Gilbert and husband Travis of Westerville, OH. Great grandchildren: Rhett, Macy & Cora  Jane Drennen. And Cooper McCullough. Also, adopted grandchildren Will & Jessica Preast and children Marlie, Raelynn & Silas of Ansted, WV and dear neighbors Amy Mitchell and children Mae and M.J. and Betty Stone all of Denver, NC.

All the family are looking forward to that great reunion day with her in Heaven because of the precious blood of our Savior Jesus Christ. I Thessalonians 4: 14-18.

Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday July 2 nd in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville with Pastor Gene Campbell officiating.
