JOHN  MARSHALL  UNDERWOOD,  76 of Canvas passed away Tuesday July 18, 2023 at his home.  He was the son of the late Cecil Jr. and Anna Louise Corbitt Underwood and was born in Nicholas County on February 10, 1947.  John was a farmer, retired coal miner and member of the UMWA. He was a US Army veteran of Vietnam.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Gloria Jean Underwood, son Matthew Stewart, brother William Underwood and sisters Patty Dotson and Lora Shaffer.

In keeping with his wishes, his body was cremated. The Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville was in charge of arrangements.
