Obituary

James E. Rader, 88 years of age of Craigsville,  a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and steadfast friend, passed away peacefully Monday March 10,2025, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, love, and resilience. Born in Drennen, West Virginia, August 20,1936,  he was the son of the late Ted and Ethel Gray Rader. James spent his entire life in Nicholas County, where he built a family, a career, and countless cherished memories.

He dedicated more than 30 years to the coal mining industry and a lifetime member of the UMWA, working as a mine operator. His hands helped shape the very landscape he loved, as well as contributing to projects like the Summersville Dam. A man of the land, he found his greatest peace in the outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or simply watching the turkey and deer roam his cherished property. His land was more than just a place—it was a sanctuary filled with memories that will live on in the hearts of those who shared it with him.

James was strong and resilient to the very end, a testament to the unwavering spirit that defined him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will endure in the lives he touched and the stories that will be told for generations. His family, especially those who spent precious moments with him on his land, will forever hold his memory close.

For over 60 years, he shared a life of love and dedication with his beloved wife, Golda Rader. Together, they raised four children, Jimmy Jr. (Carole), Jerry and Teddy Rader, Trudy O'Dell (Greg) who, along with six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, were the pride and joy of his life. He is also survived by one sister Betty Hawken. James was also preceded in death by siblings; Bill and Ruth Rader, Shirley Preast and Helen Pierson.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday March 13th in the West Virginia Memorial Gardens at Calvin.
