Obituary for Deborah "Debbie" Dorsey

Deborah "Debbie" Lynn Dorsey, 70, of Mt. Nebo, went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2026, following a brief illness. Debbie was born October 9, 1955, at Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, California. She was the daughter of Paul and Mazie Clemens of Canvas, who survive her.

A graduate of Nicholas County High School, Debbie married her high school sweetheart, Leon Dorsey, on July 6, 1973. Together, they built a life centered on faith, love, and family and shared nearly 53 years of marriage. Debbie retired from the United States Department of Agriculture after more than 20 years of dedicated service, rising to the position of GS-13. She found great joy in arts and crafts, spending time with her family, and supporting her grandchildren in their many activities. Few things brought her greater happiness than being present for the people she loved. Debbie will be remembered for her joyous smile, playful spirit, compassionate heart, and the way she made others feel welcome. She was always ready to offer an encouraging word, lend a helping hand, or share a laugh. Her kindness and generosity touched the lives of many. Debbie was a faithful member of Mountain View Church in Canvas. She deeply loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and her faith was evident in the way she lived and cared for others. Even during her final illness, her confidence in Christ remained strong. Among her final words were, "Either way, I win," and "Follow Jesus." These words beautifully expressed the faith and eternal hope that guided her life.

In addition to her parents, Debbie is survived by her beloved husband, Leon Dorsey; three children, Lisa Randolph and husband Brian, Chris Dorsey and wife Trish, and Andrea Torres and husband Scott; and ten grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, and Tyler Randolph; Caleb, Taylor, and Colton Dorsey; and Boston, Bryce, Bailey, and Brooks Torres.

Debbie will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her loving heart, joyful spirit, and faithful example will continue to live on through the family she treasured and the many lives she touched.

A Celebration of Debbie's Life will be held Tuesday June 9th at 4 p.m. in the Summersville Baptist Family Life Center with Scott Torres officiating. Friends may call at the family life center from 2 p.m. until service time on Tuesday.

In accordance with Debbie's wishes, she will be cremated. A portion of her cremated remains will be interred at Hickory Grove Cemetery in a private ceremony later. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Debbie and to celebrate the life and faith she shared with so many.

Debbie was instrumental in getting Mountain View Church involved in helping provide meals to the Day Reporting Center. In lieu of flowers, people can make donations to the church to help with this mission she spearheaded.
