Dayton Wesley
Williams
Jun 4, 1937 — May 12, 2023
Dayton Wesley Williams, age 85 of Craigsville, passed away peacefully, Friday May 12th, 2023. He was born on June 4th, 1937 in Richwood, to the late John Wesley Willams and Macil Jenkins Willams. He married Doris Jean Dailey, his high school sweetheart, on February 7th, 1957.
Dayton was the son of a coal miner who carried and passed along the love of farming. He grew up and spent most of his life on a farm situated in the mountains of Craigsville. We have all heard the phrase, "this land is covered in our blood, sweat, and tears": This stands true in many ways for this generational farm. As a hobby-farm, I would venture to say that this land has produced some of West Virginias finest potatoes, tomatoes, green beans, and corn.
In Dayton's early years, he was nationally recognized for his outstanding actions in 4H, along with being an exceptional sports player at Richwood High School. BIG Day-ton was his nick name in high school and fell in love with "Farmer" a petite beautiful lady named Doris Jean Dailey: A love story many could only dream of!
Dayton worked hard for everything that he had. On top of running his farm, he was also a salesman for Richwood and Lewisburg wholesales, Managed the Craigsville Food-Land, and was a school bus driver. His hard work and ambition lives on today in his Children, Grandchildren, and even Great Grandchildren.
Dayton was very proud of his children. He and Doris formed and molded some of West Virginia's best!
He is proceeded in death by Sister, Joanna Spencer and son, Alan Wesley Williams. He is survived by Sister, Mary Frances Bayne and Brother, Roger Dale Willams. Sons, Jeffery Williams (Regina) and Shawn Williams Colleen); Daughters, Sabrina Moore (Garry) and Cynthia Crowder (Alan); Grandchildren Derek Russell, Melissa O'Dell (Richard), Caitlin Boggs(Cody), Mark Moore(Haley) , Chelsea Williams, Adam Williams, Amber Spencer(Noah) and Peyton Willams; Great Grandchildren Allison, Lillian, and Kyndall O'Dell, Emmett and Gemma Spencer, Jericho Moore, and Chloe Boggs.
Please Join us in celebrating his life on Thursday May 18th, at 1 p.m. in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville with Pastor Ed Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the WV Memorial Gardens at Calvin. Friends may call at the funeral chapel one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
