Charles "Chick"
Zenzick Jr.
Feb 20, 1952 — Mar 1, 2024
Charles Joseph "Chick" Zenzick, Jr., age 72, of Canvas, West Virginia, and beloved husband of Karren Sue (Johnson) Zenzick, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Chick is preceded in death by his parents and two of his sisters, Joann Lulek and Jaquelyn Russo-Caffarelli. He is survived by his two sisters Joyce Wojtas and Janet Merlo; his sons, Charles "C.J." (Charlotte) Zenzick and Alexander (Jennifer) Zenzick and three children Jonah, Annalise, and Nicholas; stepsons Sterling (Dana) Chapman and Mark (Kimberly) Chapman and their son Marky, as well as extended cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Chick was born in Hartford, Connecticut to the late Charles Joseph Zenzick, Sr. and Jennie (Saruta) Zenzick. He graduated from Windsor Locks High School in 1970. He lived the majority of his life in Windsor Locks, CT, where he enjoyed a long career and a loving family. In 2020, he and Karren relocated to Canvas, WV, where they embraced a new chapter together. Karren's roots in that area made Canvas feel like home, and Chick cherished the tranquility and natural beauty of their new surroundings. Charles found his passion early in life, embarking on a journey that would see him working as an auto mechanic, metal machinist, and quality control expert working for several different metal fabricators, each specializing in the production of commercial airplane parts.
In his younger years, Chick was an avid tennis player, often taking to the courts in the early morning hours before work. Later in life, Chick developed a deep love for golf and enjoyed countless rounds with family and friends. He participated in several golf leagues and many fund-raising tournaments over the years and continued to play the game he loved until the age of 70. In his spare time, Charles enjoyed tinkering in his basement workshop, where he transformed ordinary pieces of wood into works of art, reflecting his passion for craftsmanship and attention to detail. He also enjoyed spending time with family, landscaping, gardening, canoeing, hiking, driving tours, working on his model train set, listening to Oldies music (especially the Beatles), watching classic black-and-white TV shows, and had a real knack for discussing the finer points about the weather.
Two memorial services to celebrate Chick's life will be held in early April in Enfield, CT (location and time TBD) and at their home in Canvas, WV. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Chick will be deeply missed by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends, who hold dear the cherished memories they shared with him. We take solace in knowing that Chick has found eternal peace with God.
His body was cremated. The Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville was in charge of arrangements.
