Charles Wilson
Monroe
Nov 10, 1930 — Apr 28, 2025
Charles Wilson Monroe, 94, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 28, 2025. He was born on November 10, 1930, and was the beloved son of the late Brent and Emma Monroe. Welcoming him into Heaven was his cherished wife of 69 years, Gloria Ann. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and one son-in-law, Randy Johnson.
Known affectionately by many names — Wilson, Charlie, Brother, Daddy, Grandpa, and Pawpaw, Big Foot— Wilson was deeply loved by all who knew him. His warm smile and kind heart became familiar to many as he faithfully greeted visitors at Bethel Church. The kids at church lovingly called him Mr. Wilson. He never met a stranger, and everyone who crossed his path was touched by his kindness.
Wilson served his country in the United States Army. He spent much of his life traveling across America, often behind the wheel on adventures with the "Geritol Gypsies" — Gloria and her sisters, Imogene and Tella Mae. His travels took him to all 50 states, creating memories that his family will treasure forever.
Left to honor and cherish his memory are his daughters, Kathy (Dewey) Case and Kimberly Johnson; his son, William "Brent" Monroe; and his sisters, Marie (Elmer) McFarland and Martha (Delano) Facemire.
Wilson's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Wesley and Cindy Johnson, Shane Mullens and Savannah Adams, Lindsay and Al Hudgins, Matthew Case, and Catie and Josh Christian; his great-grandchildren: Emmalea and Chris Huffman, Aaron Johnson, Annastin Johnson, Xander, Alivianna, and Zane Hudgins; and his great-great-grandson, Tucker Len Huffman.
He also leaves behind many other friends and family. He will be missed by the staff of the Nicholas County Senior Center, Nicholas Community Action, and Summersville Regional Medical Center.
A Celebration of Wilson's Life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Bethel Church in Poe. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Ryan Trescott, Paul Gray, Jacob Butler.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Bethel Youth Group.
In keeping with his lifelong spirit of generosity, Wilson chose to donate his body to the West Virginia Human Gift Registry.
