Obituary

BETTY  JANE  "JANIE"  RICHARDSON,  65 years of age of Summersville, finished her earthly journey on Saturday May 18, 2024 in the Bowers Hospice House at Beckley surrounded by her children.  She was the daughter of Edith Wingfield Huffman of Mt. Nebo and the late Woodrow Huffman and was born at Beckley on May 28, 1958. Janie was a lifelong resident of Nicholas County, a retired secretary for Huffman Trucking and a Baptist by faith. She was known for her remarkable creativity and craftsmanship. Entirely self-taught, her determination and skill knew no bounds once she set her mind to a project. Her legacy lives on in the homes of many local residents, whether it be with her paintings, furniture or unique crafts.

Janie's life was a testament to resilience and compassion. She inspired many in the community, not only through her talents, but through her strength as a mother who endured the heartbreaking loss of two children. She was dedicated to supporting others in similar situations and was an active member of the Gold Star Mothers. Traveling across West Virginia, she worked tirelessly to support veterans and their families, all while honoring the memories of those lost.

To her family, Janie was first and foremost a fierce and loving mother, a steadfast provider for her children, and a devoted nana to her six treasured grandchildren. Her strength and independence left a lasting mark on all who knew her, and her legacy of love and inspiration will continue to shine brightly.

She was also preceded in death by two sons; Patrick Richardson and Marine Cpl. Bryan Richardson,  brothers Jerry, and Gary Huffman.
