Anthony Joe "Tater" Petry, 51 years of age of Mount Lookout passed away Monday January 20, 2025, at his home. He was the son of Sam Petry of Craigsville and the late Mary Foster-Petry. Joe was born in Charleston on September 21, 1973. He was a carpenter and a construction worker.

Joe also cultivated a deep connection to nature from an early age. Whether it was the thrill of the hunt, digging mushrooms with his wife, tending his flowers, on a four-wheeler trail, the serenity of a forest at dawn coon hunting with his niece, or the satisfaction of a well-spent day on the riverbank, Joe found his purpose and joy in the great outdoors. There was nowhere he would rather be than in the woods.

Beyond his love for the wild, Joe was devoted to the small family he had and a loyal friend. He was a rock of support, a source of wisdom, and a beacon of kindness.

Stepmother:  Ruby Petry

Aunts: Pamela Taylor and Peggy Auxier

Nieces and Nephew: Chelsea Cogar, Sara Thompson, Kyndall Bailey, and Braylynn Addington

And 4 great nephews and nieces.

Rest easy, Joe, beneath the open skies you adored. You are deeply missed but never forgotten.

In keeping with his wishes, his body will be cremated.
