Obituary

Angie Murlene Hughes was a mother to Charlie and Leah Jennings, a grandmother to Lucy and Noah Ledesma, a loving wife to Virgil Hughes now deceased, step mother to Charles and Robert Hughes, sister to James and Carol McClung, Sylvia Bordo, Elaine McClung, Brenda and Delmus McClung, a doting Aunt to her many nieces and nephews, and also a dear friend to those who knew her.

After a long illness, Angie passed away on Friday May 28 th , 2021 at the home of Charlie and Leah Jennings in South Charleston, West Virginia, she was 87.

Angie Hughes was born on or about December 5 th 1933 and acquired her pioneer spirit from her parents Gustava and Jennings McClung who lived on the family farm in Canvas West Virginia.

Previously, Angie Hughes lived in Jacksonville, Florida and worked at the State Treasure and Insurance Commissioners office. She moved back to West Virginia in 1968 to spend time with her parents on the family farm. Later she was hired as the resident manager of Summersville Place in Summersville, West Virginia.

Angie loved living on the farm that she and Virgil built together. She enjoyed a good life, a simple life spent gardening, tending to their apple orchard, berry picking, 4-wheeling, shooting at any critter who dared make a meal of her crops, and most of all she loved the family gatherings. The meals and desserts she created will never be duplicated and sorely missed.

Angie was one of 10 children, five were younger than her. Angie reunites with Dayton, Edgar, Darres, Evalena, and Dana, along with her mom and dad and Sam Bordo in heaven. What a family reunion that will be!

Angie Hughes was an unapologetic, conservative Christian and strongly believed that Jesus Christ was her Lord and Savior. She was a member of New Life Assembly in Summersville.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday June 4 th in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville with Pastor Gene Campbell officiating.  Burial will follow in the McClung Cemetert at Canvas.  Friends may call at the funeral chapel one hour prior to the service on Friday.
